It was the first Christmas without my mom here with us… well, she was with us in Spirit for sure, but it was odd not having her here in the physical world with us. My husband, daughter (22) and I had a nice dinner, watched some TV (love some Dr. Pimple Popper! ?) and relaxed.

Do you make resolutions? It’s that time of year when we all start thinking, “This is going to be my best year yet!” or “I am ready to light the world on fire” or “This year I am going to be the healthiest I can be”. You know those New Years Resolutions, right? I am not a fan of resolutions… oh, I used to be, but really, it just sets you up to fail. Which is a big fat bummer!

What to do instead?

Decide to start right this hot minute and make a decision that you are going to live each day the best you can. Live life fully and completely. And if you mess up… yes, it will happen, you give yourself grace and you begin again.

Every second you have the opportunity to begin again. It doesn’t matter what happened 2 minutes ago, 2 months ago, or 2 years ago… you can choose again. ?

This year, I have been very focused on my own well-being, spiritual growth, healing and seeking happiness in every day. I’ve stumbled and had a couple of major breakdowns… it’s been a year where every emotion I can think of has made an appearance.

Grief – Anger – Sadness – Fear – Doubt – Depression – Joy – Happiness – Regret – Appreciation – Gratitude – Love – Faith

You name it, I’ve experienced it. But you know what? Every single moment has been for me to grow, learn, seek spiritual guidance, become more connected to my inner being… Although 2019 hasn’t been a smooth, paved road, I would do it again. Yep, every single bit of it. Why?

Because I came into this physical world to LIVE, to EMBRACE every experience… the great, the shitty, the real kick-you-in-the-gut experiences and the super awesomeness that is my life.

10 Ways to Fulfillment & Happiness

1. Take Good Care of Yourself

It’s much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For

Stresses and challenges don’t seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions

A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes

Have you ever told someone “You’re ALWAYS late!” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call me!”? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like ‘always’ and ‘never’ makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts

Your thoughts can’t hold any power over you if you don’t judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don’t follow it.

6. Squash the “ANTs”

Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!” When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin’, Touchin’ & Squeezin’ (Your Friends and Family)

You don’t have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up

8. Increase Your Social Activity

By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person 

Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination

If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different.

Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It’s never productive, because it’s not rational or solution-oriented, it’s just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment – go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

3 Tools I Use To Get Through The Rough Times In Life

How do we get through the rough times?

How do we respond when life kicks us in the gut?

Life definitely has a way of kicking us in the gut, and this either keeps happening over and over again, or, we develop tools to manage the kicks and keep moving forward, getting through the rough times in life.

I’ve never shied away from one of life’s swift kicks and I’ve always come out ahead. It’s not been without times of pain, frustration, sadness, or feelings of defeat, but the tools I have used throughout my life have always come through for me.

Life happens FOR you and not TO you and I have always believed that. We may not know the reason at the moment, or even be able to wrap our heads around what is going on and how it could possibly be happening for us, but yes, it’s true. I have capitalized on this fact my entire life. 

Meaning that nothing, no matter how scary it is or how hard the kick is, keeps me sidelined for very long. From my younger years (high school and 20s) when life seemed to be having its way with me (that’s a story for another time!), to losing my baby boy to complications of a birth defect at 29 days old, and then losing my grandma in 2007, my dad in 2014 and most recently, my mom in January, 2019, life has definitely had its share of kicks.

Here are my top tools/strategies for taking one of life’s kicks and getting through the rough times.


Be An Observer 

Look at your life from the outside, from a different perspective. It’s okay to step away from the problem or situation for a moment and observe what is going on… what is going wrong, but also what is going right.

Too often people focus intently on the “wrong” and they lose sight of all that is wonderful and beautiful in their life. Even though the losses in my life were very difficult, I am grateful I was able to spend quality time with each one of them during their last days.

In the past. I have struggled with entrepreneurship and creating my life my way, but in all the struggle there has been tremendous personal growth, purposeful living, and being an inspiration to others.

There is always something that is going right, always something you can learn… and it’s all happening FOR you.

Thank You/Gratitude 

By far, one of the most valuable habits you can put in place is to practice gratitude every day… and kick it up a notch when you receive one of those ass whippins’ in life!

Saying out loud what you’re grateful for and saying “thank you” for everything you can, instantly raises your vibe, raises your energy level, and raises your awareness of how awesome your life is.

Recently, while navigating through a rough time, I stood in my living room and started saying “thank you for my _____” and rattled off every single thing I could think of, as fast as I could.

I heard this from a mentor of mine on one of her podcasts, and it did it right away. It totally worked! It totally raised my vibration and I was out of my funk.

 

Keep The Faith 

You definitely have to have faith that the best is yet to come and trust the process by which things happen. You create your own reality by the thoughts you think, actions you take, and the language you use in your daily life.

If something isn’t right, you’re not feeling good about something, a situation has occurred, (i.e. you’re going through a rough time), stop and take a moment to just breathe. Realize that there is more to it than meets the eye.

The Universe wants the very best for you and is always working FOR you, not trying to make you suffer and live a shitty life. It’s just not the way.

Trust that everything is going to work out and focus on taking your next best step in the direction you want to go in. As long as it’s the next best step for you and your life, you are going to come out on top.

Little extra bonus for you…

You don’t want to live in all your shit. You want to observe it, acknowledge that it’s there, but you want to move through it. If you are continually getting kicked, you HAVE to stop and take a look at your life and what YOU are doing to attract all these situations, people, problems… whatever it is.

You create your reality… your have way more power than you believe you do.

You can simply shift your mindset and do something different. Often times when you switch gears, shock your brain into another “mode” by doing something different, this frees up energy and ‘space’ so that you can receive answers, solutions, and strategies.

Taking time to be still can be of great benefit during those moments of struggle.

With all of this being said, sometimes one of those kicks can be so hard it will take you down for the count for a period of time.

IT’S OKAY!

The point is to continue taking a step forward… even if you are in a fog. After losing my grandma, I was a complete mess for a YEAR! I thought I was okay and on the outside I looked like I was okay… but I look back now and my life was a total mess. Still, I continued just taking a step and trusting the process.

In January, when I made the 24-hour drive back to Michigan (we live in San Antonio), I was able to spend 12 hours with my mom before she passed, unexpectedly from my perspective, however, it was in her perfect timing. It was the most tragic event of my life and I was in complete disbelief for a while after. 

Without my personal growth the past few years, a deeper understanding of the spiritual realm and a wonderful support system, I would have crumbled. I did crumble for a bit, but then I moved through the darkness and into the light. A new business was birthed, JoLi Design Solutions, and I am well on my way to a freaking amazing life.

This would not have been possible without the tools I shared above, plus I incorporated journaling (a lot of it), meditation and I practiced mindfulness – quieting myself and just being with my thoughts – which was extremely difficult at times, but I kept using my tools and eventually, the good moments far outweighed the struggling moments. 

You can take life’s kicks and come out on top. You don’t have to suffer.

What exactly does your web designer need from you?

When you hire a designer to create a website for your small “soul-centered” business, the most obvious benefit you get is not having to worry about figuring out all of the tech on your own. This gives you the time you need to actually work on growing your business, focusing on your zone of genius instead of being frustrated and overwhelmed with your website.

The first thing I need from my clients is a commitment and dedication to the project and for us both to come to the table ready to make our work together a wonderful experience. With that being said, there’s a bigger, less obvious benefit to working with a web designer.

When you hire a web designer who has experience working with soul-centered small businesses, you’re working with someone who understands the role that your website plays in your overall marketing strategy.

And now you’re getting way more value out of your design project.

For example, with my background in hypnosis, and an understanding of the mind and subconscious decisions, I am able to bring specific skills to the table to design your website specifically for your business and your prospective clients.

  • Do you have a physical location or are you online-only?
  • Who is your ideal client?
  • What services and products do you offer?
  • Will you be selling anything on your website?
  • Do you plan on adding new content regularly?

Simple questions like these will affect how your web designer creates your page layouts, and which pages will be featured on your main menu.

For example, if you do one-on-one client work, your website would need different pages and features than it would if you sell handmade jewelry.

Or, if you are heavy into weekly podcast episodes, your designer might make different choices than they would if you publish blog posts once a month.

You may be taking these factors for granted, or they may not occur to you at all. I take time to educate my clients on what exactly goes into designing and building a custom website. Most business owners are not aware,.

Getting people to take action on your website is a big part of converting your visitors into customers.  You need to identify what actions you want people to take so your web designer can make it easy for your visitors to do them.

If you’re not sure what you want your visitors to do on your site, that’s okay.  It’s not always that obvious when you’re just starting out. I will often brainstorm with my clients if they aren’t quite sure.

Here are some examples of important actions your website visitors can take:

  • Find out about your business in general
  • Sign up for your email list
  • Book a free consultation
  • Browse your services and pricing
  • Pay for your services
  • Buy your products
  • Read your blog
  • Watch your videos
  • Enroll in your course
  • Get answers to frequently asked questions
  • Contact you directly

Pick three of the most important actions you want visitors to take.  Then your web designer will be able to make better design choices for your website.  You’ll want to draw attention to those items so your visitors are more likely to take action.

On the flip side, you don’t want to draw attention to something on your website that isn’t ready yet.  

For example, if you want to add a a free library resources but you don’t have anything free to give that’s ready, I’d tell you to wait to make that page visible.  Why draw attention to something if there is no pay off when your visitors get there?

3. A signed contract and deposit

Most web designers won’t even start the development phase of a project until your deposit clears, so be prepared to pay something up front.

Just like you, a web designer is a small business owner who gets paid to provide services.  If you’re a service provider, you can appreciate the importance of securing payment and protecting yourself from unforeseen issues like clients who ghost you halfway through the project.

4. Your website content

Gathering content is the first phase of any design project, and it’s the part of the project where the client has the most homework and responsibility.  The more you can prepare in the beginning, the more smoothly your project will run.

Giving your website content to your web designer as soon as possible is crucial.  Missing content can delay your entire project. If you don’t have anything to give your designer, they can’t fully design your website.

Here are some standard content items your web designer will need from you:

  • Visual branding elements (logo, colors, fonts, etc.)
  • Graphics, like a homepage banner
  • Photos (preferably of you, but stock photos can also be considered)
  • Your business’s contact info
  • A list of your services/products
  • Your social media links
  • Account info for your web hosting & email service provider

Most web designers can work with you to gather a lot of this content.  My Premium Design Package includes services for color palettes, fonts, and other helpful services.  It takes the pressure off of my clients and I LOVE to make their lives easier. ❤️

5. Your website copy

Submitting copy to your web designer is just as important as giving them your other content.  Most web designers are not copywriters, so it’s not technically their job to fill in your headlines, product descriptions or even the snappy words you use on your “Learn More” buttons.

Of course, your web designer isn’t going to delay your project so you can give them an alternative to the “Sign up for my newsletter” prompt, but they’ll secretly love it if you did.

I do my best to intuitively design clients’ websites and use copy that I know works well for the soul-centered entrepreneur.

The copy you really need to focus on is what goes on your homepage, your about page and your email opt-in offer.  That’s where you’ll be marketing your business to your website visitors so you can warm them up new leads.

Your web designer uses your website copy to create layouts that take your visitors through a journey on your website that should lead to taking action.  So get that copy written and ready to deliver.

And lastly… one which I stress with my clients (and I make sure I am staying on top of!)…

6. Your email opt in & list

Your email opt in offer is the main thing that transforms your website from a static info site into a marketing tool that works 24/7.  It’s imperative that you have a free opt in with a focus on building your email list.

Once you’ve created your email opt-in offer, your web designer can set up the tech to connect your website to your email service provider (there are many, and I recommend Mailerlite).  Then you’re ready to start building your email list from the moment your website goes live.

It’s possible to launch your website without an email opt-in offer, but why would you?  That’s just going to delay any opportunity you have to generate warm leads and convert your visitors into potential customers.

Higher vibrations and feelings is the medium by which your desires will manifest. Raise your vibration and will attract more of your desires.

You experience and create all kinds of different energies that affect how you feel and what you accomplish throughout your day. Some energies are powerful and easily recognizable, while others are more subtle and often only intuitively felt. Everything is energy.

The things you say, think and do—even the things you don’t do—can raise your vibration or lower your vibration… and all produce energy that impacts you and the people around you.

If you work on creating more positive energy, you’ll see improvements in your life and you’ll touch more lives than you thought possible.

The transformation of humanity is simply a vibrational shift to higher frequencies.

There is nothing more important than how you are vibrating. Your personal vibration is your greatest resource and more vital than money, time or even physical energy. Everything is second to your vibration. From a low vibration of fear, worry or overwhelm, life is difficult and relationships are challenging. Scarcity is often the norm and we spend our lives just trying to get by and survive.

It doesn’t have to be this way…

When you know that your thoughts and emotions are vibrating (Law of Vibration) and you know that “like attracts like” (Law of Attraction) you will appreciate that you can now start to alter your life just by altering your thoughts and emotions.

Unfortunately many of us are “programmed” from childhood to have thoughts and emotions about worry, fear, scarcity, doubt, worthiness, competency and so on. A belief is just a thought you’ve kept thinking and the more you’ve thought it, the more evidence you have attracted into your life that confirms your belief.

If you change these patterns of thoughts and feelings, (i.e. raise your vibration) you will attract into your life what you truly want. Over time, as you put habits into place, and with the discipline to keep at it even when you’re in rough waters, you will begin to see the changes taking place. You will feel a shift in your vibrational frequency and people, opportunities, resources, and ideas will flow into your life and you will be inspired to take action. You will attract the exact life you desire.

Have you ever looked at someone and their life and think how “lucky” they are… how things always seem to be working out for them? Most of you have, I’m sure. I know I have before. I wondered what in the heck they were doing and what was I missing. Here’s the truth…

It isn’t about luck!

It isn’t about luck or that they are doing something ‘magical’… or that you are missing something they have…. we ALL have it… it is about energy, your personal power, your ability to attract into your life that which you manifest, that you deserve and feel worthy of.  It’s really quite simple.

If you are not in control of your thoughts, you are not in control of your life.

 

Conscious vs. Subconscious Mind

Your subconscious mind is roughly 90% of your brain and is WHO you are. Your conscious mind is the other 10% and is WHAT you do. Everything you have ever experienced in your life is recorded in your subconscious mind, and is responsible for all the things your do, your beliefs about yourself, others, and the world, and all your decisions.

All your emotions are located in the subconscious and stimulate mind chemicals (good or bad) which your body automatically responds to. Your conscious mind takes action and makes decisions based on what your subconscious feels and believes.

Why is this important to know as it relates to raising your positive energy?

If you are often in a low vibrational state, thinking negative thoughts, and “sit” there for too long, your subconscious mind is recording this, and over time, believes these feelings, and emotional state you are in, to be true. Therefore, it begins to act upon these beliefs and you attract more of the same.

To permanently change your your thoughts, actions, and decisions, you must change your limiting beliefs and ideas that have been recorded and stored in the subconscious mind. Raising your positive vibration (energy) is a start. Awareness brings about the desire for change.

Consistently feeding your mind positivity, controlling your thoughts and emotions, and keeping your vibration/energy high, is the first step in permanent change, and is often enough to move us into a more consistent high vibration.

If this process is a struggle for you, or if you feel you have deeper limiting beliefs, it’s worth it to learn more about hypnosis, which is a deepened, relaxed state of focused concentration. During hypnosis, your subconscious mind is in a very receptive state where it will accept positive suggestions to bring about permanent change.

At any given moment you control the thought you are thinking. Allow the negative thought to come and go… shifting your mindset to the positive. The more you do this, the easier it will be to shift your thoughts.

Your Current Situation Is Not That Important

Most people get emotionally involved with their current situation, and then they think it’s an accident that the same results keep recurring. ?

You have to get out of your current situation and begin focusing on what you want… as if you already have it. Your current situation is not important. It’s done. It’s here because of thoughts you have been thinking, where you have been focusing your energy, what your mindset HAS been. It’s not where you are going.

What you focus on continues to show up in your life, in some way, shape, or form. If you focus on the lack of anything, you will only get more lack. It’s the way the Universe works. It is law.

Law of Attraction:

Like attracts like. We must align ourselves in every way with our desired outcome. The thoughts, actions and energy we send to the world attracts like energies.

I’ve been at a point where I have had $2.83 in my bank account, credit cards were nearly maxed out, and there was no where else to turn… most are going to focus on the fact that “I don’t have any money”, and “I’m so broke”, or “How am I going to pay for ____ and ____?”

If I would have focused on that, I would still be there today. What you focus on, gains momentum and energy, and the Universe brings you more of that, whatever “that” is. During this time, when most would have been freaking out, I turned my focus to abundance, money flowing easily to me, opportunities presenting themselves, everything is always working out for me, faith that I was going to be okay… all the positivity I could.

It wasn’t that I was denying my situation, I just didn’t give it energy. Sure, there were moments when it was super hard to get out of that place in my mind… what the hell was I going to do type thinking, but with what I have learned and studied about how our minds work, I knew I needed to think differently, respond differently, talk differently, and act differently… so I did.

This is where everything that I practice comes into play… journaling, affirmations (I used the same 2-3 for weeks when things were really rough), feeding my mind, meditation, hypnosis, visualization, gratitude… and most of all… belief and faith that life is happening for me and that all was going to be okay. 

Journaling 

Therapeutic, activates the subconscious mind, saved my life. Writing removes mental blocks and allows you to use all of your brainpower to better understand yourself, others and the world around you.

Gratitude 

I practice gratitude, I am grateful for what I already have, and more came into my life. The more you practice gratitude, the more consistently you practice, the more you attract into your life. What you are grateful for, more of that shows up in your life. 

Meditation

Meditation quiets my mind and allows me to access the deepest part of my inner being, my higher self, and inspires me to follow my own path of least resistance

Affirmations

Daily affirmations are to the mind what exercise is to the body. I focus on two to three at a time, and when times were rough, I must have said them 50-100 times a day, wrote them down, felt them, cried about them, sat with them and believed every single word. When done correctly, and over time, affirmations can reprogram your subconscious mind. 

Visualization 

Visualization activates your creative subconscious which will start generating creative ideas to achieve your goal. Imagining and feeling that I was already successful, had money in my bank account, living exactly as I desired to live. I saw the opportunities, people, experiences, cash flow, clients… all of it.

Feeding My Mind 

I don’t expose myself to negativity (as much as I can anyway), the news… and I read and listen to, positive mind power ‘food’. If you are constantly complaining, focused on problems, blaming others, making excuses for this and that… I don’t have the energy to be around you.

10 Moments of Mindfulness

Everyone has stuff that happens, but you control how you respond to any situation. If your response (or reaction) is blame, excuses, anger, self-pity, poor me, it’s just not healthy. Be willing to learn, grow, expand yourself, and be 100% responsible for your decisions and actions. Be willing to change your life if you aren’t currently living the life you want.

Lastly, I practice hypnosis three or four times a week. This has been the backbone of my life changing in ways I had always imagined it would. Through hypnosis, I have been able to overcome body image issues, change my money mindset, release people and circumstances that were not serving me anymore, release pounds, forgive myself, uncover and repair limiting beliefs… all because of practicing this natural state of being. It’s been the most fascinating experience of my life.

Life is happening FOR you, and not TO you.

Understand this and accept it, and your life will change. Simple, right? Not quite. I mean, it is simple, but it takes some work, trust, belief, and faith.

I’ve been there… I’ve been overweight, functioning alcoholic, depressed, broke, low self-esteem, body image in the toilet, you name it… from the outside, I had it all together, but on the inside, I was a mess. I’ve battled different things for most of my adult life, but after losing my son in 2003, I spiraled a bit but held on, then when I lost my grandma in 2007, I nearly lost every bit of control I had. I managed day by day, but it took a year for me to finally realize I need to get out of the black hole. And then it took another few to finally do it.

And then… I honestly thought I had my shit together when, in January 2019, my mom passed, rather suddenly. it was just shy of a month that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It took me under, however, using the tools I had been accustomed to, and seeking out a more spiritual journey than I had been on before, I stand tall. Had I not had the tools and focused on my current situation, I would have been more of a mess than I was.

I GET IT! Shit is hard! But what is your alternative?

I used every tool here (and still do), and I got myself out of that place, to a place, now, of abundance, prosperity, I attract opportunities, I feel amazing, I’m healthy… it’s a wonderful life. But I didn’t get here by accident, and I didn’t get here by making one excuse after another. I got here through mindset work, personal growth, determination, developing healthy habits, getting in touch with my spirituality and strengthening my belief in ME. 

Focus on what you want, not your current situation.

It’s a commitment to you. It’s a commitment to your life, your family, living your destiny. YOU deserve to get out of the mess you are in and live with joy, appreciation, happiness, abundance…. all of it. But it takes digging deep and doing the messy work.

Once you take that step and honestly commit, the journey is so freaking amazing, you won’t recognize your (old) self months and years down the road. You have to let your old self go… in other words… the life you are currently living has to be given up for you to live the life you desire.
