I bet you are reading this because you are ready to turn your traffic into sales! Hell yeah!! That’s why you’re in business, right?

But, hold the train for a second… this sale does not happen as soon as someone lands on your website. Well, it can – anything is possible – but it is rare.

Are you operating a solo business, or maybe you have a small team? Are you looking for ways to bring in passive income and put some business on repeat? Do you want a resource and action plan that will show you how to create a simple customer journey starting with your website?

As opposed to this customer journey, you may have product launches. Those can be super stressful because every time you want to ‘launch’ something, you have to repeat this process of

  • Plan for the launch
  • Market the launch
  • Hope that you get a certain amount of sales (that is stressful enough!)

And of course, rinse and repeat the entire process again

Every time it’s like you are starting from scratch! Want more sales, launch another product!

This is why creating a customer journey is one of the smartest things you can do. Once it is set up, you have a smooth system (que “Smooth Operator from the 80s!) for your website visitors to take.

And the beauty, is that this customer journey works behind the scenes on your website… and of course brings in your email marketing platform with it. This all leads to turning your traffic into sales!

What is a Customer Journey?

A customer journey is a simple process that you put in place to turn your prospects into customers. It’s really that simple.

Someone does not land on your website and click a “buy now” button and poof, they are your client! It just doesn’t happen that way.

In the customer journey there are several stages that you are taking your prospective clients through before they become your client.

The basic gist is that you are taking someone from a complete stranger and hopefully turning them into someone who knows, likes and trusts you, and then they decide to click the “buy now”, or at the very least, getting in touch with you somehow.

Here’s the sweetness of a customer journey…

With the right mix of tools in place, you can completely automate the entire thing.

So, let’s get into it!!



7 Steps To Turn Traffic Into Sales On Your Website

Step #1 – Create an irresistible offer

The success of your customer journey begins with creating something for free that your visitors (your dreamy clients) cannot do without.

This will be your lead magnet. Get it? Magnet – you are drawing them in like moths to a flame – I’m a huge Janet Jackson fan! They obtain something they need and desperately want and you, my friend, now have brought them into your customer journey.

  • You want to make sure the offer inspires people to take action – gives them a quick win.
  • A compelling title that gets people excited
  • A great subtitle
  • Appealing visual design

Step #2 – Create a high converting landing page to capture email addresses with

You can do this right on your website. I use WordPress and create a blank page. Yes, there are other platforms that you can use and yes, they are geared specifically to give you an amazing landing page. They are attractive, I get it.

However, they all are going to give you another monthly service that you are paying for. There is really no need for that if you are designing your landing page with best practices in mind and ensuring key elements are on the page.

Step #3 – Make your offer POP on your landing page

The first thing to remember is that this landing page is created to give the visitors ONE thing to do – get your free offer. This is the reason it is a blank page with no header or footer that allows visitors to go down the rabbit hole of your website. You don’t want them to be distracted.

Give them one choice – get this free offer.

I suggest making things a little larger on this page – images, text and of course the name/email form that gives them access to the free offer. This form will come from your email marketing platform. I use Mailerlite and I am able to create a simple form to embed on my website, anywhere I choose.

One thing I will say about this form is that I highly encourage you to use the double opt-in that your form provides. There are various reasons for this, but the biggest is that you want to make sure you have a quality email list and when you are not utilizing the double-opt in, your email list gets bogged down with bots, which are fake emails that stalk forms like this and complete the information randomly and automatically.

It makes for a messy email list. Trust me… I’ve had to clean up 100s of emails from my list before!

Step #4 – Create a thank you page with a tripwire offer

A tripwire is a low-cost product – usually in the $7-$37 price range that you encourage your visitors (now subscribers and in your customer journey – hooray!!) to buy.

There is typically a time limit on this offer, making it enticing for your subscriber to take action at a low price point. But, it doesn’t have to have a time limit. Mine doesn’t and I am okay with that. Whatever floats your boat!

Step #5 – It’s time to pay!

You have to set up a way to pay you and while there are, just like landing pages, a whole lotta platforms that are specific to taking payments, you don’t have to use them – especially if you are doing this on a budget. Squarespace has a built in payment structure and WordPress, of course, has plugins you can use to take payments.

I use Dubsado for this because… well, because it is just fantastic! I can incorporate an invoice into the scheduler along with a form and boom – the money is there.

My clients who sell products and services on their website use WooCommerce and, the best part is that the purchase connects directly to Mailerlite to now, you not only have your subscriber who got their free offer (one group on Mailerlite), you also have that same subscriber on the product purchase list. It’s segmentation at it’s finest and allows you to market to specific groups of people.

Step #6 – Create your email automation sequence

This is, in my opinion, theeeee most important because if you are not following up with a lovely dreamy client who just got their free offer AND quite possibly purchased your low cost product/service, you will lose them for sure.

Step #7 – Test your funnel

You have to test that this all works the way it is supposed to. The worst thing you can do is to put it out there and then find out there are snags in the process.

I’ve even set prices at $1 to test it out. Open up a different browser window that what you are working in. This could be a completely different one or an incognito window in Google Chrome. Or, have a friend go through it. You can leave the price as is, or change it for them, too. 

You don’t want people to get caught up and get a “404 error” when trying to get what they want. This is bad for business!

Why is your homepage so important and why should it matter what value you provide? Do you want a kick ass homepage that attracts clients and keeps visitors on your website?

Heck yeah you do? And here’s why…

You have approximately 5 seconds to impress a visitor before they see no value in it for them and jump ship! Eeeekkk!! You don’t want that! Provide kick ass value right from the moment someone lands on your page!

What are some changes you can make for a kick ass homepage? Honestly, I am constantly taking a look at my website and refining my messaging, making sure I am making the changes that are going to benefit my visitors in the long run.

If you don’t give your visitors a reason to stay within a few seconds, they are not going to stick around for very long.

Why do your clients decide to work with you? What motivates people to choose you, to choose your  services over the hundreds of alternatives? What makes you and your offers, better than the rest?

The answer: your value proposition.

Clear Value Proposition

With a clear value proposition, your visitor knows the value solution being presented on the website, and most importantly, why they should continue ready. Answer these questions on your homepage:

  • Why does this website exist?
  • What can I do on this website?
  • Am I the ideal client for this website?
  • Why should I buy from you?

If you can perfect your value proposition, you can increase your conversion rate and improve your marketing strategies across many channels. Learning to present the value you and  services deliver in a compelling way is one of the most high-value, wide-reaching marketing activities.

It’s the way your brand or service fixes a meaningful pain point, improves the lives of your target audience, and the way it makes them feel. After all, people buy with emotion, not with logical reasoning.

A value proposition should be front and center when a visitor arrives on your site.

Intuitive Navigation

Your navigation should support the value proposition by making it easy for your prospective client to find specifics about what you offer. Make sure your menu titles are clear – nothing fancy is needed.

Your website navigation structure should allow someone to land on any page on your site and navigate to another page.

It would be great if you knew that every visitor would start on your homepage and follow a predictable path. That’s not the reality. Just like in a city, people land in different places and have different agendas once they arrive. That’s why you must pay attention to website navigation and make sure it’s intuitive.

Additionally, remember that the purpose of website navigation is to convince people to explore your site further. Give them reasons to click on links by inspiring curiosity and enticing them with great offers.

Nice, Inviting Picture of You

Having a welcoming image of you on your homepage shows your visitors there is a real person behind all the text. I used to go back and forth with this, but have found it to be absolutely true. You can have your picture near the top, or down the page a bit. Not having it at all is a turn off for visitors, especially in the wellness and healing industry.

Here’s the scenario…

You decide you are going to design your own website so maybe you ask around at what others have used and how they’ve gone about it, or you do a quick Google search for DIY website or something like that.

You’re not fully prepared to complete your website but you start anyway… because you know you want to get this done and out of the way. In other words, get it checked off your list.

You begin. You stress. You spend a shit ton of time just trying to learn the platform you are using. Is it WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Weebly… or maybe it’s GoDaddy (gasp!). Whatever it is, it takes up your time… and lots of it. ??‍♀️

You stress more. You Google more. You watch more YouTube videos. You ask your business bestie who did their website.

You finally may get something done on your website after long hours of sweatin’ and agonizin’.

Not knowing which platform to use

I would stay away from any company platform, such as GoDaddy, for your website design. These companies are focused on hosting, domain names and emails, typically and not entirely specialized with website design and maintenance. Go with Squarespace if you are going to design entirely yourself and want something relatively easy. WordPress if you want the maximum versatility and functionality.

Not having a design plan

Know how you want your website laid out, what colors you are going to use, font choices, etc. before you begin your design. Know the goals of your site and the best design to make that happen. You can always use Google for your research or feel free to email with your questions. I’ll do my best to get back with you ASAP.

Not giving your visitors a clear path to follow – call to action

You have to guide your visitors to what you want them to do. It could be to book a call, to buy something or download your free offer, but you have to tell a visitor specifically what journey you’d like for them to take by providing clear call to actions throughout your website. These are usually in the form of buttons and best practice is to have them all the same color.

3 impactful website design strategies you can make today to secure your dream clients.

Simple & Easy Navigation

Your site must be easy to navigate through. If your potential customers have to jump through hoops to find what they’re looking for, they’ll simply go to a competitor. Your website menus need to be user-friendly. I recommend no more than 6-7 main pages in your navigation. You can use sub-menus (dropdown) to include more pages, however, be cognizant of how many choices you are giving your prospective clients when they land on your home page.

Call To Action

If your website has no clear call to action, you’re losing out on potential clients. You have to make it clear what you want visitors to do on your website – on every page – where you want them to go and how you want them to continue on the journey with you. This could be as simple as contacting you, booking a session, watching a video, signing up for a free offer, etc. Your call to action is the turning point from a prospective client browsing your offers to working with you.

Great Copy

Ah, great copy. Writing for your website can be difficult, but with some practice, and accessing some of the resources I will provide in your emails, you will get it. Your copy should be viewed as if you are talking directly to your client. It should be interesting, engaging, well written and free from typos or spelling mistakes – it happens on occasion though – cuz we’re human.  ??‍♀️

Your website visitors don’t want to sort through jargon or dull content – they want to achieve their objective there and then and they want to consume copy quickly. It should also be compelling – copy covers everything from blog posts to ‘book now’ buttons. Great copy is essential for converting visitors to clients. Remember: Your website is for your dreamy clients, not you.
